Children respond very differently to scissors, water, sounds and an unfamiliar situation. We explain the next steps in simple language, provide reassurance and plan a practical hairstyle that suits the hair and family routine.
Explain calmly beforehand that the hair will be shortened and that a trusted adult will stay nearby. Threats or large promised rewards can make the appointment feel more daunting than it needs to be.
A favourite book or small familiar object may help. If possible, avoid scheduling another tightly timed commitment immediately afterwards.
At the beginning, we clarify with the child and accompanying adult how short the hair may be and what matters in everyday life. Depending on age, we include the child in simple decisions.
We announce touch and each stage of the process. Short pauses are possible where the workflow and safety allow.
The cut should be comfortable, avoid getting in the way during play and be easy to comb or dry at home. We consider growth patterns, density and sensitive areas.
For longer hair, we discuss whether enough length should remain for tying it back. With short cuts, we pay attention to soft, wearable outlines.
Not every child’s appointment needs the same process. Whether washing is useful and comfortable depends on the service and situation.
Elaborate styling or lots of product is not required for a good result. If we use a product, we explain its purpose and how little is needed.
Please mention this briefly in the request. We can then plan the appointment as calmly as possible and keep expectations realistic.
We do not promise to complete a cut at any cost. If it cannot be carried out safely, a new and better-prepared attempt is often the more respectful choice.
The child’s age, approximate desired length and any particular sensitivities are helpful. Medical or developmental details only need to be shared when they are relevant to a safe process.
An accompanying adult remains responsible and helps the child to sit calmly and safely.
